Scope and content
This series consists of receipts for monies paid out by the Treasurer, who was the manager of the English Stock and whose duties included keeping the Stock accounts, looking after its paper and book stocks in the warehouse, organising printing of the books and collecting rent from Stock property. Many receipts consist of bills with receipt of payment added at a later date; some folders also contain Wardens' vouchers and documents such as certificates for stock in South Sea annuities.
Many different expenses are recorded, including:
Payments of land and window tax; payments towards the militia; tradesmen's wages and expenses; dinner expenses; payments for paper and for printing and advertising books; monies for the use of the English Stock; and parcel discounts on receipt of books.
Dates of tax dockets are given separately to those of other vouchers, as their dating occasionally differs significantly.

System of arrangement
It is clear from bundle wrappers preserved in some folders and in a folder of printed almanack advertisements and publication notices [TSC/E/English Stock/E/02] that the Treasurers' vouchers were originally arranged by quarter according to the date that monies were received from the Treasurer. Tax dockets are occasionally grouped by name of payer, and some date up to several years earlier than other vouchers in the bundle.
At an unknown date these bundles were placed in folders, with some folders containing more than one bundle and some bundles being merged. The resulting order of items within each folder has been preserved.
