About the Stationers' Company
The first fraternity of Stationers in London was formally established in 1403, and represented workers in the book trades. In 1557, the Stationers received a royal Charter as the Worshipful Company of Stationers. For the next century-and-a-half, they played a pivotal role in the regulation of the book trades in England, and subsequently their membership continued to include some of the key figures in printing, publishing and paper.
As a result, the Stationers' Company Archive is an invaluable resource for anyone studying English book history. And we can't wait to share it with you!
