Christopher Meredith (fl. 1624-1653) was a bookseller, specialising in theological books, who served as an Assistant of the Stationers’ Company from 1645 to his death in 1653. He left his two houses in St Paul’s Churchyard (the Crane and the Marigold) to the Company. He specified the following purposes for the annual rents:
- That ten pounds be paid as a loan to poor men of the Company every 29 September
- That ten pounds be split for (1) the purchase of Bibles, either in octavo or duodecimo in a plain binding with clasps and stamped in gold letters ‘Kempsey Manor’, for Meredith’s tenants at Kempsey Manor in Worcester; (2) a gift of school books to the poor boys of Kempsey School, whose parents could not buy them books; (3) a gift of small Bibles to the poor children of Christ’s Hospital.
Meredith had been a governor of Christ's Hospital in his life. He also left ten pounds to the Company to attend his burial and purchase a piece of plate.
