The Licensing of the Press Act 1662 dictated that printing presses were not to be set up without notice to the Stationers' Company. The Act was renewed for seven years in 1685, and renewed again in 1692 until the end of the existing session of Parliament. The House of Commmons refused to renew it in 1695.
